A Story of Strength and Hope: Supporting Children Like Kaleb

Marie-Hélène, the mother of 6-year-old Kaleb-Wolf, shares a heartfelt story that highlights resilience, medical dedication, and the power of community support.

Kaleb lives with brittle bone disease, a rare condition that makes bones fragile and more prone to fractures. From the very beginning of his life, he has received specialized care at Shriners Hospital for Children – Canada, a facility known for helping children with complex medical needs. Thanks to the expertise of the medical team and ongoing treatment, Kaleb has been able to enjoy a more active and fulfilling childhood than many once thought possible.

Over the years, Kaleb has undergone six surgeries, each contributing to improving his mobility and overall quality of life. These procedures have helped strengthen his bones and support his development. Despite the challenges, he continues to make meaningful progress. While he primarily uses a wheelchair, he has also learned to use a walker—an achievement that once seemed out of reach.

Looking ahead, Kaleb is scheduled for a seventh surgery on October 9th. This important procedure will involve the insertion of telescopic rods into his bones. These rods are designed to grow along with him, offering increased support and helping reduce the risk of future fractures. It represents another step forward in his journey toward greater independence.

Outside of medical care, Kaleb enjoys activities that bring him joy and confidence. Since the age of one, he has been attending swimming lessons at Piscine Lavigne. The water gives him a sense of freedom of movement that is difficult to achieve on land. Over time, he has become well known at the pool for his cheerful personality, determination, and constant smile. For those who meet him, Kaleb is a source of inspiration.

Motivated by the support their son has received, Kaleb’s family has decided to give back in a meaningful way. They have launched a fundraising initiative to support the hospital that has played such a crucial role in his life. Their approach is simple, creative, and accessible: selling colorful elastic loom bracelets, a popular handmade item especially among young people. Each bracelet will be sold at an affordable price, ranging from $2 to $4 depending on the design.

This initiative is about more than just fundraising—it is about raising awareness and helping other families access the same life-changing care. The funds collected will go toward supporting programs and treatments that benefit children facing similar health challenges.

The family believes deeply in the idea that positive change can start small. With the support of a caring community, even modest contributions can help make a lasting impact. Their message is clear: together, it is possible to make a difference, one child at a time.

To bring people together around this cause, a fundraising event will be held at Polyvalente Lavigne on September 27th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the family, purchase bracelets, and show their support for children in need of specialized care.

Kaleb’s journey is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through perseverance, medical innovation, and community kindness. His story continues to inspire those around him and demonstrates how hope can grow even in the face of challenges.
