A little dog recently arrived at a Texas animal shelter in urgent need of help. Her skin was cracked and infected, and her entire body was coated in a mysterious purple substance. Shelter staff knew she needed immediate care — and that’s when a local rescue group stepped in.
A Mysterious Arrival
When the animal rescue organization This Is Houston learned about the pup’s condition, they didn’t hesitate. Volunteers rushed her to an emergency veterinary clinic, where she began receiving the lifesaving treatment she desperately needed.
Veterinarians soon discovered that the purple coating was actually a livestock antiseptic — a product often used to treat skin conditions in farm animals. It appeared that someone had attempted to treat the dog’s severe mange on their own, likely out of desperation.
Meet Violet
Once stabilized, the sweet pup was named Violet — a fitting tribute to her unusual arrival. She quickly caught the eye of a dedicated foster caregiver named Bri, who felt an instant connection to the dog after seeing her intake photo.
“I don’t know why, but I just knew I had to foster her,” Bri shared.
A Cozy New Beginning
After leaving the clinic, Violet was brought home to Bri, who immediately got to work making her feel safe and loved. Because Violet had lost most of her fur, she was cold and uncomfortable — until Bri gently dressed her in a pair of soft pajamas.
Wrapped up in warmth, Violet finally relaxed and fell into a deep, peaceful sleep.
Healing With Love
Over the following weeks, Violet’s recovery progressed beautifully. Bri gave her medicated baths, applied soothing coconut oil, and made sure she stayed warm in her fuzzy sleepwear. Slowly but surely, Violet’s condition began to improve — and her true personality started to shine.
“She’s feeling so much better and is definitely enjoying the attention,” said Tara Hall, a board member with This Is Houston.
A Bright Future Ahead
Today, Violet is a much happier pup. Her fur is growing back, the purple tint has faded, and she’s forming sweet bonds with Bri’s other dog — a gentle pittie who’s become a comforting companion.
“She just loves to cuddle and will curl up in my arms like a little squirrel,” Bri said.
Though she’s still on her road to full recovery, Violet is already accepting adoption applications. At just a year and a half old, she’s looking for a forever home where she can continue to receive the care, love, and snuggles she adores.
