From Struggles to Success: The Story of a Grandmother, Her Grandson, and a Thriving Roadside Stand

Our roadside stand is not just a business; it’s a symbol of everything my grandson Jakob and I have built together from the ground up.

Three years ago, Jakob was in a tough place. At 19, he had dropped out of school, struggled with depression, and spent most of his time in his room playing video games. His parents were at their wit’s end, and honestly, so was I. But I remembered how working in my garden as a child had helped me through difficult times. I thought that maybe, just maybe, it could help Jakob too.

I asked Jakob to help me expand my small vegetable garden behind the house. “Just for the summer,” I told him, “Fresh air might do you good.” He grumbled, but he came outside.

It didn’t happen overnight, but slowly something began to change. Jakob started asking questions about the soil, when to plant, and why certain vegetables grew better together. By the end of that first season, he was the one waking me up early to check on the tomatoes. What started as a small project became something that sparked a new passion in him.

Fast forward to today, and our little hobby has turned into a thriving roadside business. Jakob handles all the growing and harvesting, while I manage the sales and interact with our wonderful customers. Every single vegetable you see here has been grown with care and love on our small family farm.

But what truly makes this stand special is how we’ve connected with other farmers through the Tedooo app. The app has allowed us to sell pickled vegetables during the off-season, and it has brought us into a community of gardeners and makers who have become like family. They understand that for us, this isn’t just about making money — it’s about growing something meaningful together, sharing knowledge, and building relationships.

When neighbors stop by to chat and buy our vegetables, they’re not just supporting a small family business. They’re supporting Jakob’s journey of personal growth, and the bond between a grandmother and grandson who found their way to each other through hard work, dirt, and seeds.

Every “hello,” every smile, and every purchase really does mean the world to us. This stand is more than just a place to buy fresh vegetables — it’s a reminder of how, with love, patience, and a little bit of dirt, anything can grow.
