Shoppers nearby turned their heads. The girl suddenly screamed — and that was all it took.

Daniel shouted for backup and sprinted after him. Carts toppled, shelves rattled, and startled customers cleared a path. The suspect pushed through a side exit and bolted across the parking lot, heading for a chain-link fence.
“Stop!” Daniel called out, but the man climbed over and disappeared into an alley.
Moments later, the store’s staff gathered around the frightened girl.
Her name was Lily. She told them she had been away from home for two days.

Tears filled her eyes. “He told me nobody would believe me.”
