A new national survey is offering insight into how Americans currently view President Donald Trump’s performance during his second term—and the results highlight a noticeable shift in public sentiment.

According to a recent CNN/SSRS poll conducted from October 27–30 among 1,245 adults, the president’s approval rating has moved downward to 37%. This marks a decline from 47% recorded in February and places him near the lower end of his approval levels over the course of his presidency. The same survey shows that 63% of respondents disapprove of the way he is handling his responsibilities overall.

Growing Concerns About the Direction of the Country

Beyond the approval numbers, Americans continue to express worry about the nation’s trajectory. Approximately 68% of those surveyed believe the country is heading in a “pretty” or “very” bad direction. The rising cost of everyday essentials remains the leading concern for many households, shaping much of the public’s overall pessimism.

Nearly half of respondents—47%—identified economic issues and the cost of living as their top priority. Another 26% pointed to concerns about the health of U.S. democracy, while 10% said immigration was their highest concern. Despite being a major topic in political discussion, immigration ranks lower than the economy and democratic stability in this poll.

A significant portion of participants expressed doubts about the impact of the president’s policies. According to the survey, 61% believe current policies have made economic conditions more challenging, and 56% feel the United States’ global reputation has been negatively affected.

Some respondents are also uneasy about the president’s use of executive authority. About 61% say President Trump has “gone too far” in exercising presidential power. These views appear to be influencing how Americans plan to vote in the upcoming midterm elections. The poll shows that 41% of voters intend to cast their vote as a statement of opposition to Trump, while 21% say their vote will be in support of him.

The President’s Response and What Comes Next

President Trump has rejected the poll’s findings, describing them as unreliable and saying they do not reflect the true level of public support. He has dismissed the results as “Fake Polls” on Truth Social, emphasizing that he remains confident in the backing of his supporters.

As the midterms draw closer, analysts note that public opinion could continue to shift depending on economic conditions, major policy developments, and the political climate in the months ahead. For now, the latest survey provides a snapshot of how Americans are feeling—and which issues matter most to them.
