Spanish actress Ana Obregón has continued to speak publicly about the emotional journey that followed the loss of her son, Aless Lequio, who passed away from cancer in 2022. In the years since his death, Ana made international headlines after welcoming a baby girl through surrogacy using her late son’s preserved sperm.
The decision sparked intense public discussion, especially in Spain, where surrogacy laws remain highly restrictive. Despite the controversy, Ana has consistently defended her choice, saying it was connected to what she believed was her son’s final wish.
Ana Clarifies the Child’s Relationship to Her
After the birth of the child in 2023, many people believed Ana had become a mother again at the age of 70. However, the actress later explained that the baby girl, named Anita, is actually her granddaughter.
Speaking in an interview, Ana said:
“This girl is not my daughter; she is my granddaughter.”
She explained that Anita is biologically the daughter of Aless and that she plans to teach the child about her father as she grows older. Ana has described Aless as someone she wants Anita to remember with pride and admiration.
Finding Joy Again After Personal Loss
Ana has openly discussed the deep grief she experienced after losing her son. According to the actress, the years following his passing were emotionally overwhelming and left her struggling to move forward.
Since Anita’s arrival, Ana says her daily life has changed completely. She described her home as being filled with toys, stuffed animals, and playful activities. In recent interviews, she shared lighthearted moments spent playing with her granddaughter and enjoying family time together.
At the same time, Ana admitted that caring for a young child at her age can be physically demanding. She mentioned that lifting and carrying Anita has become more difficult as the child grows older and more active.
A Story That Sparked Debate
The announcement surrounding Anita’s birth generated widespread attention across Spain and internationally. Because surrogacy is not legally permitted in Spain, the child was born in the United States through a surrogate. After the birth, Ana legally adopted Anita, becoming her official guardian.
The situation led to discussions about surrogacy laws, ethics, and family decisions after loss. While opinions have varied, Ana has maintained that her focus remains on honoring her son’s memory and giving Anita a loving home.
Living With Grief While Embracing New Beginnings
Ana has repeatedly shared that the pain of losing a child never fully disappears. In interviews, she explained that grief changes over time but remains part of everyday life.
Even so, she says Anita has brought new meaning and energy into her world. The actress described her granddaughter as a source of hope and emotional healing during one of the most difficult periods of her life.
While Ana acknowledges that nothing can replace her son, she also says that caring for Anita has helped her rediscover happiness, purpose, and hope for the future.
